Together with our partner organisation Mavuno Project and the Karagwe District Council in Tanzania, Engineers Without Borders Sweden (EWB-SWE) is working broadly to improve the educational situation. We facilitate for teaching and learning at governmental primary schools by improving the water and sanitation conditions. Our goal is to systematically address all schools in Karagwe and Kyerwa to improve the availability of water, the quality of water, and the availability of adequate toilets. We will possibly reach 123 800 children. In a greater sense, improved access to clean water and sanitation at the schools will benefit also the greater communities consisting of 750 000 people.
You will manage the coordination of activities and projects, overall aiming to provide safe water and sanitation to schools in the targeted regions. Projects in this program may involve design and review of water tanks, investigation of other sources of water than rainwater, development of purification methods suitable for the context, design of sanitary solutions, evaluation of implemented projects and facilities etc. The program manager leads the projects through project managers. Your task is to have the overview of the main program and set up smaller projects and collect the information of what they achieve.
The program management includes strategic planning in collaboration with Mavuno and Karagwe District Council. A key task is to create a common plan for the implementation, and nurture fruitful collaborations and proper documentation. Fund raising and contact with and feedback to donors are parts of the program management.
The position is unpaid and hence done on a volunteer basis. You are expected to intend to be engaged in the position long-term (minimum 2 years), and have the possibility to set aside some 4-5 hours per week.
Experience of project and program management is key to succeed in this position.
Experience from working or travelling in developing countries is important as well.
Knowledge about water and sanitation in general would make your work easier.
