Project manager - Water Harmonisation Project in Zimbabwe (Voluntary work)

Engineers without borders Sweden (EWB-SWE) is looking for a project manager to a water harmonisation project in Honde Valley, Zimbabwe.

About the project:

The availability of freshwater to the communities in Ward 10 in Honde valley, Zimbabwe is limited and not equally accessible to all members of the population. Water is collected from different sources and is of varying quality. An initial field study was previously completed by students at KTH regarding a range of areas of topics including water management, energy and sustainable cooking (more info below in section 1.5.2). According to a questionnaire completed during that study, 88% of the population in Honde Valley claim that their water supply is not efficient. The students found that 37% of the population were getting their drinking water from wells, 13% from a common tap, 26% from a pipe connection and 24% from other sources.

In order to identify effective ways of improving water supply in the area, another field study is necessary. Such a field study could include an assessment of the function of the water supply system including water quality, mapping existing pipes, mapping possibilities for rainwater collection and storage and mapping of the existing well capacity. EWB-SWE has recruited two master students who plan to complete this field study during the spring of 2020.

This may include, but is not limited to, the following: writing and updating the project plan, recruiting new team members, attending on-line seminars arranged by EWB-SWE, helping team members prepare before travel, arranging and attending monthly Skype-meetings with the project coordinator. As a project manager you may also work directly on the technical aspects of this project and travel to the project site. However, this is not a guarantee or complusionary.
